About Me
I began designing landscapes for San Antonio schools and other non-profit institutions in 1998 as a newly-certified Bexar County Master Gardener. The Master Gardeners sent me all over the city of San Antonio and beyond, helping schools and other organizations implement their ideas and dreams for various types of gardens and horticultural installations. This was a mutually beneficial arrangement, as I honed my design skills while working with very grateful people.
I was unstoppable at this point, and my next move was to pursue a formal education. I enrolled at Texas A&M where I spent one of the most worthwhile, stimulating and demanding years of my life in the Masters of Landscape Architecture program. My design education made me see the world in a different
way, with constantly flowing ideas and solutions. In other words, I became a designer!
Upon returning to San Antonio in 2000, I launched Jean Robinson Design and have been designing ever since. I have created landscapes for such diverse places as fire stations, animal care facilities, State Park gardens, hospitals, large residences and small, front yards and backyards. Each project presents its own unique set of design obstacles and possibilities, and I thrive on finding solutions that bring style and interest to every space.
It was the beauty and striking aesthetic of Texas native plants that first inspired my professional journey, and that is what continues to inspire me every day. With ever more challenging weather and water limitations, natives and other well-adapted plants are becoming a necessity for low maintenance, water conservation, and survival. With our own Texas natives-plants from here-we can achieve both sustainability and a visually stunning landscape that beckons us outside.
